time to celebrate!

Hello and happy March! It is my birthday month so let the celebrations begin! YAY!!! I know that this year may be a little different... you know, because of the whole parent thing. While I used to spend many a March days drinking with friends, traveling and splurging on silly things I still hope to find some time to celebrate.

Although I am now a mother, I can still dream about birthday treats right? My wish list may be small and a little eclectic but I am currently swooning over all these lovelies.

my birthday list
1. Part one of Anjelica Huston's  biography. She and her brother Danny Huston are both awesome actors and it seems like they have lived very artistic and interesting lives.
2. Poppy Blossom by Coach smells like a sunny day.
3. Sakura Bloom baby sling. This is actually on Henson's wish list too. The kid loves to be worn and for quick trips this sling makes way more sense then tying the Moby.
4. New practical mom shoes. I don't think my platforms and wedges are going to cut it this summer. I love these simple converse although I wore my Toms everyday while pregnant and you don't have to tie Toms... plus they come in an amazing zebra print...hhhhmmmm....
5. This last one is a little crazy but I have always wanted to pierce my septum. Considering it is my last year before I turn 30 NOW is the time!!
That is it for now. HAPPY MARCH!!! Smell ya later February. Thanks for looking. Love, Ms. Kate

"You're dressed like Bob Dylan"

I have been trying so hard to be trendy and to dress up but every once in awhile I resort to my old ways. Basically, I dress like a boy. I have been on vacation this week so my outfits have become a little uh....relaxed.
I hadn't really noticed until my husband turned to me and told me I dressed like Bob Dylan. I think it was the messy hair. It was too funny so I thought I would share. This weather has been cold and rainy....perfect weather for reading books, creating art and dressing like Bob Dylan.

Polyvore is so fun! If you haven't checked it out you should! Hope you are enjoying the fall weather. Thanks for looking. Love, Ms. Kate.

fashion friday: dresses!

It is official! I am addicted to dresses from Target. In the last month I have bought five (eeeeep!) It is a great way for me to add trendy things to my wardrobe without spending a fortune. I have been living in this dress! It is t-shirt material and wicked light!
I have a new stitch fix coming so hopefully I will find a few more pieces to add to my collection. Happy Friday! Thanks for looking. Love, Ms. Kate.

fashion friday: third stitich fix

Hello all! Just received my third stitch fix! For my new readers: stitchfix.com is an awesome company that sends you clothes based on your style and fashion preferences. You pay $20 and they send you a box of goodies featuring new designers and all the latest trends. You try everything on and then keep what you like and ship (for free) back what you don't want! Oh and that initial $20 goes towards credit on your purchases! That's all there is to it! You can see my other stitch fixes here and here.

Well, I wish I could say that the third time is a charm but that is simply, not the case. This was another mixed bag of things that I "liked" and things that were kind of boring. That being said, I am amazed that the clothes they send me ALWAYS fit! I haven't had to squeeze into anything. Stitchfix does a phenomenal job picking clothes that will fit my body type (with all this boobage going on over here) So lets take a look at my fix:

First there was the gray blazer by THML. It was a simple gray blazer... that is all. Not exciting but it fit well!

Then there was the "scary item" I think that stitchfix purposely puts one item in each box that is totally not my style. Maybe they are hoping that I will venture outside of my comfort zone? Of course, I am keen to trying new fashion but not like this and again PINK!!! UGH! This tank was by Jaloux (couldn't find a website) and was super duper soft but the color and "back flap" were not going to fly. Get it? "fly"? as in this tank had a cape!

Next was the oh so trendy sheer blouse by Olive and Oak. I loved this shirt and I really wanted to keep it but it was black and the point of stitchfix for me is to take risks and add color! The last thing I need is another black shirt.  It was really pretty but I thought it was a little expensive for the simplicity and the quality.

Then onto a silk dress by designer Charlie Jade that I liked but would never wear. Seriously, I really can't wear strapless. This one reminded me of a dress you would wear to a poolside mixer circa 1972.

And finally a collard dress by Many Belles Down. I loved this dress! Loved it! It was soft and comfy and had a sexy black collar AND pockets! Plus the pattern was neat-o!

But wait what is that??

Yes! Gasp! A HOLE!!!

I have had terrific luck with stitchfix.com and was so surprised to find a hole! When I emailed them they were super helpful and more than willing to help me out with my little problem. I am sure that things like this are bound to happen but I was sad. Although in this picture I look pretty pissed. I was more disappointed then angry. How can you be angry with a company that is so helpful and accommodating?? Thanks stitchfix! You have once again made my fashion adventure fun! With every box I receive, I learn a bit more about what I like and what is comfortable. It is so nice to get a box of clothes that will flatter my body type. I am saving so many hours by not going to the mall and suffering (under florescent lighting) in a dressing room. Oh my god! I can remember so many afternoons in a dressing room scratching my head and getting discouraged because an item doesn't fit well. This is so much fun and way better! Tiny hole aside, this company is awesome! Have you tried it yet? What do you think? Should I keep any of these items? I do really like the dress...
Thanks for looking. Love, Ms. Kate

fashion friday: summer stripes

Oh my god I bought a dress that has orange in it! Not only is it orange but it has a lace back that shows my tattoos. I tend to wear a lot of black and adding bright colors to my wardrobe can be um....uncomfortable but I when I saw this dress at Target I decided to go for it! Yes, the lovely creamsicle color is new to my wardrobe and I am glad I took the chance!

Also, I have been opening old boxes and throwing a lot of junk out. I recently opened a box and found a pair of clogs that I bought while living in Brazil. They are over ten years old and back in style! YES! Do you have any clothes from high school that are still in your wardrobe? Thanks for looking. Love, Ms. Kate.

fashion friday: Goddess Garb

Greek Goddess

Having fun with polyvore.com again. I made that necklace and coordinated an entire outfit/situation to match. This makes me want to go on vacation....sigh. Thanks for looking. Love, Ms. Kate

Fashion Friday: Second Stitchfix

I know that fashion can be weird and I am probably a little too practical for some of the fashion trends. I also know that I am no longer 20 years old. So sometimes I struggle with wearing things that are meant for ladies much younger than I.  Apparently stichfix is also wrestling with finding the correct balance between youthful and *ahem*....teen.
I am so unsure about this second fix. I didn't LOVE anything in this box and I know I am supposed to be taking risks but I also want to look good and be comfortable. If that makes any sense?

Basically, I don't want my fashion risks to be horribly fitted or so youthful that it looks like I am trying to be something I am not. There is a difference between taking tiny risks and jumping head first right?

Second time around I asked for more dresses and I got them so I know stitchfix is paying attention but I am still very unsure. So here is what I got in my second stitch fix!
Little disclaimer: my reviews are not intended to be mean. I LOVE this company and am having a lot of fun getting my "fixes." I really appreciate how hard they are trying because my body type is not an easy one to dress. I really appreciate that every single thing that has arrived has fit. If I were to go to the mall, the sizes fluctuate so much that sometimes my sizes fit and sometimes I cannot squeeze them over my bust. Thank you for the solid effort stitchfix.com I really appreciate all that you guys do!
Now on to my fix:

First..JEWELRY! I asked for no jewelry (I make the stuff myself) but I know stitchfix is trying to push me to try new things. They must have interpreted my "please no jewelry" as "I don't wear it" so they sent me a simple chain bracelet. It is pretty but again, I could make it for a fraction of the price. I checked out the designer Rachel Eva's web site and her stuff is simple and cool. So, thank you stitchfix.com I will defiantly be keeping my eye on this designer.

Then there was this little number....there are no words except mustard, satin, and sack. Good idea, poor execution.

Next, a dress from Aryn K. The fit wasn't terrible AND it had pockets but it was a little short and the back was crocheted! I am really hesitant about open backs because I hate showing my bra.

All of a sudden I noticed the front panel on this dress had snaps. You can open this dress up to reveal...nothing? It was amusing and I couldn't figure out what these "flaps" were for...drying my "lack of fashion" tears perhaps?

Then another dress, this time by designer Charlie Jade (website is pretty cool). I would never pick this color off the rack but I love it! This one was bright and airy (100% silk) with pockets too! Since it was silk it came out of the box very wrinkled.

I decided to play around with this one so I added my own belt. I really like the detailing at the collar but it is pretty short. I think I will have to think about this one (its a bit expensive) but more age appropriate.

The Grand Finale was a cardigan that looked like something straight out of the 1920s. Designed by an Australian company called Ladakh I was impressed by the quality although puzzled on exactly how or when I would wear this.

The black lace is sexy and this may look great with a black dress? Or black pants? Maybe paired with a long cigarette holder and some moonshine? Is this shirt speakeasy appropriate? I joke but this top is pretty neat. I am unsure about this as well but it is so different...

Well, this second stitchfix may have been less than perfect but it was still so, so, so much fun! Thanks again stitchfix! Are there any pieces that you really like? Any suggestions on what I should keep? Thanks for looking. Love, Ms. Kate

mix it up!

New job, new outlook... why not some purple hair? Thought I would mix it up! The dress I am wearing is part of my latest stitchfix which I will blog about on Friday. Check back!  Today, I plan on designing some jewelry for a fellow blogger (eep!), cleaning the house and then dinner with my sis-in-law. Happy Sunday everyone! Thanks for looking.
 Love, Ms. Kate

fashion friday: room for rompers

I have wanted to find a romper that fit my body type for a long time.  I love the way they look, comfy and retro. Rompers remind me of vacations to woodland parks and lake resorts...in 1968? It has been very difficult to find one to fit this curvy frame. Recently, I was out thrifting and I picked up this little number for $2.99! I think I am going to have to hem the shorts but I love owning  this vintage item and hopefully I can rock it this summer...I'm thinking belted with wedges and big sunglasses!

I will be blogging about my second stitchfix next Friday so check back for that.  I am also getting my hair colored and cut this week...I think something totally crazy for summer! Do you have any retro pieces that you love rocking in the summer?
Thanks for looking. Love, Ms. Kate.

fashion friday: new specs

I need new glasses! I have been sporting the same frames for seven (holy crap!) years and I need to change it up. I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to experiment with my look and try something  totally different! All the cool kids I have been hanging out with told me to try ebay. Basically you can bid on really inexpensive frames and then go to a local eye place to get your prescription put in!
Well, of course I bid on more than one pair and now I have two options to choose from. I wanted to try catseye 50's style (vintage) but now I don't know what to do. Do they make me look too old??

Change can be difficult and apparently I don't like to switch my glasses very often so I am stuck with a fashion conundrum. Stick with what I have or take a risk? Here is what I wear now.

Now I have two neat-o options!
My eyes are closed in the pic below because these glasses have really thick lenses. They are so thick  that they warp my eyeballs and make me look like an anime character! Yet, the frames are copper and the filigree accents are beautiful! This pair is amazingly made and despite being vintage have held up surprisingly well.

The second pair are smaller which I like but in poorer shape. The plastic that rests on the ears and nose is a little yellow. Although,  I am sure a proper cleaning could help that. They have silver accents and the plastic part of the frame is sort of charcoal gray.

The gray ones match more of my wardrobe (black) but the copper ones match my hair...hmmmm....

So if I make the leap and rock the "granny glasses" which pair should I pick?? Any advice? Thanks for looking. Love, Ms. Kate

Fashion Friday: First Stitch Fix!

I've said it before and I will say it again, I am a jeans and cardigan girl. I have been looking for ways to branch out of this "casual rut" for sometime and have been experimenting with my look. I have been playing around with makeup, wearing heels for fun and trying to think outside the box.

Recently, I was catching up on my favorite blog little chief honeybee and she was blogging about this new company called stitchfix.com.

The whole idea is brilliant! Basically you apply to their program, they eventually accept you and then you have to fill out this neat-o questionnaire. They ask you all sorts of questions about your life, your fashion preferences and your style. Then you pay $20 and they send you a box of goodies! If you like anything they send you, you simply pay for it (that original $20 fee transforms into credit!) and the rest you send back for free!! Easy right? Well, Kaelah from "honeybee" has awesome style and has had really good luck with her stitch fix(es) so I decided to give it a shot!

I was very, very excited when the box arrived on my doorstep last night and I couldn't wait to see what was inside.

Well...it was a mixed bag. I understand that stitchfix prides itself on urging their customers to take chances (hello didn't I say I wanted to think outside the box?) but some of the things in this box were the bad kind of risks.

Lets start with the worse and work our way up...ending on a happy note? Here we go!

Item number one was the only dress in the box and I was excited about the shape because I would never pick a dress like this off the rack. The color however, will never be seen on my body...for those of you that don't know me...I really hate bright pink (unless of course, it is a flower, frosting or bubblegum.)

Neon pink aside, the dress was really, really well made and if it had been black (and the teeniest bit looser in the bum) I would have kept it.

Next was also well made, almost like a fine knit with soft cotton detailing at the arms but the color was too light for my skin and the cut did nothing for me (sad face).

The third looked awesome in the picture but as soon as I tried it on, my brain went "nope!" It was a crochet cape/vest thing...all I could think of was "super granny to the rescue!" However, I know a few people that could totally rock this!

Finally there was some cuteness. I'll admit that this top is kind of simple but the colors were cool and the light fabric will be perfect for summer.

I recently purchased a vintage navy blue skirt and this top matched nicely!

The last item in the box was a super soft scarf. Again it was pink (sigh) but I might keep it and give it as a gift.

All and all, my stitchfix was a lot of fun!! I really love the idea of not paying for clothes until you try them on because I end up returning two-thirds of the stuff I order online. I also hate the mall so having a box of options delivered was great! I can't wait to see what arrives in the next box! I think I will ask for more dresses. Thanks for looking. Love, Ms. Kate

Fashion Friday

Time for some spring cleaning! I am rearranging my closet and getting rid of things that I don't wear anymore. While a "closet purge" can be rewarding, I find that there are certain items that I cannot seem to get rid of. I have had this brown dress since college and it was one of my "go to" dresses. It is made of a light cotton material and has a neat safari scene printed on it (including a lion!) I don't wear it very often but I cannot seem to part with it. I decided to try it on and see if I can sneek it back into my wardrobe. It is so light and would be perfect for summer. This is one I think I have to hold onto. Do you have anything in your closet that you can't seem to get rid of?
Thanks for looking. Love, Ms. Kate
