heart of saturday night

Still waiting for our little doodle. Any day now. There is no room left on my lap for poor Cookie. Every once and a while she gets little kicks that really confuse her...it is really entertaining. I hope everyone is having a good weekend. Thanks for looking.

little things

To our little doodle,
Come out, come out... wherever you are. I know you are so snug and warm in your little cocoon but we are so ready to meet you. Your dad and I have been waiting and waiting and we are so excited to show you this side of the world. I know it can be scary. This can be a place filled with violence and poverty, inequality and greed. Part of me feels I should apologize for all the muck. Yes, you will inevitably experience sadness and pain but there are so many amazing things here. So many things I cannot wait to show you. For every serious and terrible thing there are many glorious moments to experience in this life.

baths
Cookie's soft ears
clean quilts
star wars
libraries
taco night
Shel Silverstein
sleeping in the sun
crayons
packages from Aunt Betsy
homemade cookies
car rides
big blue skies
opening a new jar of peanut butter
the first snow in winter
wool socks

Come out and play little one. If we all stop and take a moment, it is easy to remember why we are all here. Thanks for looking.

the waiting game

I am learning a very valuable lesson these days. A new form of patience that I never knew existed and I'll tell you...waiting for a baby is tough.

The nursery is set, freezer is stocked, and tons of tiny clothes have been washed and folded. Pat and I have taken the classes, read the books and packed our hospital bags.

So here we are.

I go through the days crafting, baking, cleaning, and reading a.k.a "nesting"(it's a real thing). I have been spending more time in the library these days then I ever did while I was in school...okay, maybe that is not entirely true but I am getting to know the librarians pretty well.

Waiting is tough for me. Not that I am an impatient person but I tend to over think things that are out of my control. It has been interesting to let go of any preconceived ideas and simply, wait. I am a serious planner and pregnancy has taught me to take a breath, stop making lists, avoid Google and just enjoy the quiet time.

I have also started beading again. When I found out we were expecting, one of the first things I did was organize my beads. It took me a month but now everything is so tidy that designing is fun again!! I recently finished a bracelet that will be uploaded to Etsy today!! All and all things are peaceful and full of creativity. I will continue to keep you all posted. Thanks for looking, Love Ms. Kate.

A few words on The Family Fang

One of the things I really missed about blogging was sharing and writing about the books I am reading.
So....to kick start my reappearance in this space, I thought I would share a few words on Kevin Wilson’s book The Family Fang which was the perfect start to my summer reading. It is funny and heartfelt with quite the cast of characters.

The plot follows performance artists Caleb and Camille Fang and their two children Buster and Annie. When I say “performance artists” Caleb and Camille are bat shit crazy for their art and will stop at nothing to create the perfect performance piece. Throughout the book, the couple would drag their children to malls and restaurants in order to perform random acts of spectacle. These scenarios had me giggling... they were so bizarre! Of course, I couldn’t help but feel sorry for the poor Fang children, who were often oblivious to their parents artistic plans. As the children grow it becomes evident that their parents helped generate two eccentric, mistrusting adults. Kevin Wilson’s characters are complicated and give the reader an interesting perspective on how a set of outlandish, extremely artistic parents can have such an affect on their children’s psyche.

This book was quirky and even had a bit of mystery thrown in. If you are looking for something odd without being too dark then try The Family Fang. It was an unusual and entertaining read but still filled with heart. These characters were a little nuts but Wilson’s portrayal of their feelings was very realistic.

I actually read a lot this summer.  I tend to read a very eclectic mix of things and plan on sharing my findings with you all. I am also always open to suggestions. Thanks for looking. Love, Ms. Kate

heart of saturday night

I am so happy to be blogging again. Reaching for my camera has been such a treat as the day light changes and we begin to welcome fall. After spending most of the summer melting in a vicious heatwave I am welcoming this cooler weather.  This fall is going to be spectacular!

As the seasons change, my husband and I are quietly anticipating the arrival of our first child. It is such an exciting time filled with reflection, small crafting projects and spending time together as a family. The awaited fall season is on its way and with it our lives are about to grow in amazingly wonderful (albeit terrifying and exciting) ways. We cannot wait and I am so excited to redefine this blog as a way to update friends, family and document our next creative journey. Thanks for looking. Love, Ms. Kate

Almost 8 months...and counting!

confusion has its costs

Why hello! How quickly time has passed. So much has happened!
I wanted to take a break from blogging so I could focus on my life and it appears that life grabbed my hand and refused to let go.

That being said, I missed my little corner of the interwebs. I missed writing and the reflective way that I could document my life...and be (just a little) self involved. Also, since I have stopped blogging I have actually taken fewer pictures which was NOT my intention! I miss my camera and messing around with digital photography.

All and all, I can now say that blogging was an excellent creative outlet for me and one that I have been missing a lot. So, here I am...giving it another go. It may not be diy based (I just don't have the time) but it will be a place where I can document my life and my creative endeavors. So much has happened in the last eight months that I cannot wait to share with you all. So stop by again soon and let's go on this adventure together. Thanks for looking. Love, Ms. Kate.
