november goals in review

So....here we are!! The last day in November...We made it!! I had set out to accomplish a few goals in an effort to make my life more "organized" and to settle into all this mommy business. Well, I have to say I am glad I started with tiny goals because otherwise I think I would have been really overwhelmed.

That being said, I am happy to say that ALL of my goals for November were accomplished with great success!!

Goal #1: Get my hair cut and dyed. Seems simple enough right? It wasn't until the THIRD week in November that I actually got around to making an appointment. It was getting really, really long and everyone kept saying I looked like a mom from an 1980's sitcom!!

So I had it chopped off! I still need to have it dyed and I'm thinking of going really, really RED....

Goal 2: Fit into my jeans. Okay, so not my usual jeans (I'm not magic!) but the jeans I save when I don't exercise enough and spend too much time snacking..... aka my "fat girl jeans" Mission accomplished! I will spare you the photo but slowly things are shrinking. With my recent Dr. visit and his approval to start exercising (Goal #3 check!)  things are on the right (skinnier) path.

Goal #4 Breastfeed more, pump less. This needs its own post but what I will say is I am no longer pumping and Henson is putting on weight like it is his job!!! Woohoo!!!

Goal #5 Travel for Thanksgiving. We traveled 2ish hours to be with Pats family and it was absolutely wonderful.

Goal #6 Build our cloth diaper stash and establish a laundry routine. Our stash is getting there and with the help of my awesome husband (sometimes I forget) laundry is being done everyday.

So there you have it!! It feels good to check things off the list and stick to my goals. I hope I do as well in December. We will have to wait and see. Thanks for looking. Love, Ms. Kate.

one step

Last Tuesday I woke up to feed Henson before dawn.  I quietly sat and greeted the day. As it grew lighter I realized it was snowing! The first snow of the season. I always get a wave of childish excitement when the snow arrives followed by the panic that comes with being an adult and having to shovel and drive in the stuff. Snow brings an anticipation for the holidays that is something to look forward to and also to dread.

The winters in New England are so tough. The last few years we have had horrible power outages that lasted days. I hope this year will be on the milder side. One day at a time right? I will try not to stress so much about things that are out of my control. Are you excited for winter? or is it a mixed bag? Thanks for looking. Love, Ms. Kate

Goals for November

Whoops, I meant to post this earlier in the month but we had a serious wind storm that knocked out our internet....le sigh. So...let's just pretend it isn't so late in the month although I am happy to say I am actually sticking to and achieving these goals!

Anywho, now that Hens is a little older and A LOT healthier I feel that my life is slowly attaining a sense of normalcy. We may not have a solid routine but everyday we are gaining more and more footing. We are becoming a strong unit and everyday's challenges are becoming less daunting. Not only is the family growing more established but my new identity as a mom is molding into something I can be proud of.

I may have spent most of October in sweatpants (and in hospitals) but November is the time for me to gain some composure and attack this new life head on!

This month I will:

get my hair cut and dyed
fit into my pre pregnancy "fat girl" jeans
have my six week check up and have the Dr. give me a clean bill of health
breastfeed more, pump less
travel for Thanksgiving
build up our cloth diaper stash and establish a laundry routine

These may seem like simple goals but October was a traumatizing month and establishing a life when your family is recovering from such stress has proven tough....but we will get there! We ARE getting there, one day at a time. Thanks for looking. Love, Ms. Kate.

heart of saturday night

It's getting cold here. There is frost and the stove is cranked. Soon there will be snow which I am excited for and also (equally) dreading. Time to get cozy. Time for large cups of hot tea and good books. This morning while the whole house slept  I made a cup of blooming tea. Always a treat to watch the flower unfold in the glass. In the early light the amber tea cast shadows across my book. Too pretty.

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend. Thanks for looking. Love, Ms. Kate.

1 month of little things

To our little doodle,

I cannot believe it has been a month.

You have fully recovered from your hospital stay.
You have started hiccuping, yawning and smiling.
Your favorite past time is to stare at the ceiling fan.
You had your first bath and didn't cry.

Things to look forward to:

Thanksgiving and meeting more of your family.
The toasty afternoons sitting in front of the wood stove.
Crisp morning walks.
Fuzzy sweaters and wooly socks.
Organizing/alphabetizing the records and spending time with all that awesome music.
Getting into more of a routine now that Pat is back to working full time.

If we all stop and take a moment, it is easy to remember why we are all here. Thanks for looking. Love, Ms. Kate.

six things

When you have an infant you need a lot of stuff  and trying to navigate the sea of stuff is overwhelming. Here are six things that we use everyday and have been absolute life savers.

What are some of your favorite items? Thanks for looking. Love, Ms. Kate.

heart of saturday night

Started this giant puzzle when we realized Henson was going to be late. I hadn't done a puzzle in a really, really long time (16+ years...yikes!) Luckily, he arrived before I finished it. A rainy November is the perfect time to finish a puzzle don't you think?

Tonight two dear friends are coming over for dinner and baby squeezes. I can't wait! Hope everyone has a great weekend, Thanks for looking. Love, Ms. Kate
